WWI Navy Sailors Capture German Gear – Pickelhaube Helmets, Guns, Bayonets and Trench Knives

Over a million doughboys probably did it, but I’ve rarely seen shots of Navy sailors with captured German gear.  German helmets, bayonets, pistols, rifles, swords, and medals!  Phew!    Funny thing is, I picked up similar WWII image a few months back.  Check it out!  From the LCT 535

  1. Yeah mate very strange indeed but looks good doesnt it.
I have pictures of my grandfather in the British Navy when he was a boy in WW1 and they looked like amob of Pirates.
Hope you still like the Blue Suede Shoes 5 tank posts too.

  2. I’m not sure where you are from, but I’m trying to find some pictures of American life at home during World War I. I have propaganda posters but I would like to find pictures of factories, workers, etc.

  3. Hi, I’ve just come across your site and these images. and would really like to use the first one in my PhD thesis? It won’t be published and I would give a proper citation of you/this site. Also, do you have any more information about its provenance? Thanks in advance for any help 🙂

  4. You can bet those swabs were all flat broke through at least the next 3 paydays. Shore leave offered sailors a wonderful opportunity to blow their pay buying war trophies from the soldiers who captured or liberated them.
